Many arrive searching for new experiences, friendships, and purpose. During this unique season of their lives, God opens doors for them to encounter the hope and love of Jesus Christ.
At Vancouver Japanese Gospel Church, we have been faithfully building relationships, sharing the Gospel, and discipling Japanese people for many years. God has blessed us with a growing congregation, a committed pastoral team, and a worship ministry that is preparing for the next season of outreach. However, to reach more Japanese people effectively, we believe God is calling us to expand beyond our current limitations.
Facts About Vancouver Japanese Gospel Church
Since moving to its current location in New Westminster, BC, in 1990, God has faithfully used Vancouver Japanese Gospel Church as a bridge to bring the Gospel to Japanese people in Greater Vancouver and beyond.
Today, VJGC is one of the largest Japanese-speaking evangelical Protestant churches in North America, sharing the hope of Christ in Japanese and welcoming nearly 190 people each Sunday, including Japan-born individuals, second-generation Japanese, international students, visitors, and local families.
In the past five years alone, 57 people have publicly declared their faith in Christ through baptism. Many of these believers have since returned to Japan, where they continue walking with Christ, serving in local churches, and becoming witnesses of the Gospel in a nation where less than 1% of the population follows Jesus.

1. Establish a new ministry presence in Downtown Vancouver.
Most Japanese international students, working holiday participants, and visitors spend their time in the downtown area. A new VJGC location closer to where Japanese people live, study, and work would allow us to reach those who may never travel to our current location in New Westminster.
2. Create Gospel-centered events throughout Greater Vancouver
Through outreach events such as Gospel Night, worship gatherings, open cafés, volleyball nights, senior gatherings at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, and other community activities, we create bridges of friendship where Japanese people can experience the love of Christ and hear the Gospel in a welcoming environment. Your partnership helps make these opportunities possible by providing venues, outreach materials, and advertising that allow us to connect with more Japanese people throughout Greater Vancouver.
3. Expand our evangelistic outreach through digital media
Many Japanese people discover events and communities through online platforms. Your support can help us reach thousands of Japanese residents and visitors through targeted Google and social media campaigns, inviting them to experience Christian community and hear the message of Jesus.
4. Prepare for a larger and more accessible ministry home
Our current church building is over 100 years old and has been a place of blessing since VJGC moved into this location in May 1990. For more than three decades, this building has welcomed Japanese people seeking community, hope, and the message of Christ. However, as God continues to grow our ministry, limited space and its location away from major transportation routes have become challenges. Today, we hold multiple worship services each Sunday because we cannot accommodate our growing congregation at one time. A larger and more accessible facility in a strategic location would enable us to welcome more Japanese people and expand our Gospel outreach throughout Greater Vancouver.
